Revamp:: Glass Top Vanity

I have had this little project sitting in the garage since the beginning of the summer. We picked up this vanity at a flea market for $5. It was such a beautiful weekend, I wanted to get it done before it was officially freezing out.

So, the scoop on this little set, is that

A. It is not a set. Though the lady who sold me it decided she would sell it as such. She said it was really really old. LOL. Well the chair has a 60s vibe, so maybe it is. The metal was rusty and it is for sure older than the vanity. I really kind of dug the velvet on the stool, but it was pretty nasty and stained and there was an awful cigarette burn on the seat.

B. The vanity itself is probably 10 years old or so. Much cheaper than the stool, like it is probably lighter in weight almost. Someone at some point did this faux finish on it and it was missing the end caps on the table top and the top of the mirror. If this was ever going to appear as a “set” they both needed a make over.

I didn’t really have a plan for this project. I sort of just used what I had on hand to give her a makeover, and here is how it turned out::

I primed all of it, then brush painted the chair and vanity with a color called Blue Lagoon from a free sample that I had from Glidden. I recovered the chair with fabric from a $5 bolt that I had picked up from Walmart a while back and glued some dark colored gems into the gaping holes where the caps were missing.

I finished it by using some onyx wipe on stain to dull the blue some. Then I sealed it with a gloss.

I like how it turned out, but I’m not sure what to do with it just yet!

Not bad for using all things that I had on hand. The whole project was well under $10 to make. Not too shabby! :)
