DIY- natural whipped body butter

Have you ever used REAL whipped body butter? I mean, not lotion, but whipped body butter?

I can’t even describe how much I love this stuff. I mean, I genuinely grin from ear to ear when I tell people about it and use it AND it’s really fun and simple to make. Don’t read this.Instead take a screen shot on your phone and run to the store and buy what you need to make it.

You will need:

  • 2 oz coconut oil- (1/4 cup)
  • 7oz shea butter-(about a cup. and think whole foods, online, organic section of the grocery store…just look and you will find it.)
  • electric mixer (or serious elbow grease)
  • a jar or any container with a lid
  • vitamin e (as an added bonus, but not needed. a few capsules)

OK, are you back? good.

Just throw everything into a bowl and whip/beat it for about 6 minutes or so. That’s it.  I like to melt my coconut oil to work as an emulsifier, but you don’t have to. Here’s what’s gonna happen: you will get a lovely whipped cream and you will want to eat it. (don’t) Instead, slather it all over yourself and store any extras in a lidded jar in a cool place. This is butter, if it gets hot it will turn into a liquid. Like butter does.

When you use this, don’t think that it applies like a lotion, because it doesn’t. Body butter is heavier and greasy, but well worth the few minutes you have to wait for it to absorb. Think of it this way, people with oily skin have less wrinkles,  if you need to feel a little greasy for smoother skin, so be it. Furthermore, this stuff LASTS. I apply it at night after a bath or shower and no joke my skin is…wait for it…supple. Yes I used the word supple, but that was the only word that popped into my head the first morning after I used it. There was a genuinely noticeable difference in my skin. It was moisturized and supple.

You can look for a similar product in my bath and body line when it launches with the addition of some yummy fragrances. I use this every single night and my skin has never felt better. Let me know if you make it and how you like it!

  • I took last week away from blogging and got some things done around the house. I painted my kitchen, did a chalkboard wall, threw away some junk. It feels awesome. Which leads to the fact that I just now want to spruce up literally every other area in our house. Haha. Really, though. I crave… [Continue Reading]

This looks so yummy that I want to slather it on top of a pumpkin pie! Lol :)
How long will these last me in glass jars? I want to make a bunch to put in jars to give as Christmas gifts, so I was wondering if I should add any kind of preservative? If so, what do you suggest and what stage and how do you add it? How would I make this different colours or smells? I also love aromatherapy and would like to add essential oils for my personal use. Basically at what stage and how would you add colours and fragrances to your lotions and butters? I know I’m full of questions and I do appologize for that, but I find it better to ask them all in one then to post like 20 different comments for every question lol :)

    Thanks again
P.S. If these butters melt in warm weather (granted, being a Canadian is a blessing but… We don’t get to many months of that warm weather I’m talking about lol.) Will they reharden once away from the heat?)
